Spanish, Andie Levine: The unit for Spanish will expose students to the many facets and dynamics of drugs within the Spanish and Latin culture. Students will analyze the representation of drugs within the Spanish and Latin American society, as well as the social, economical, and political impacts of drugs. The first week of study focuses on legal drugs, the second and third weeks focus on illicit drugs, and the fourth week focuses on the life and drug use of Puerto Rican poet and screenwriter, Miguel Piñero. By means of class discussion, article critiques, journal writings, film viewings, and group activities, students will better understand the implications of drug use and drug production within the Latin world.
